Welcome to this month’s reading roundup! Unlike last month, I only made it through two books. But they were both 4 stars and above in my eyes, so I’m counting this as a win.
I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but if you ever have any book recommendations, please let me know about them in the comments! I’m always looking for a good read.
Alright, let’s get started!
Sweet Misfortune by Kevin Milne
I loved this book. 4.5 stars.
If you’re in the mood for a book that unravels as it goes, reconciles past with present, and is just a super good read, ‘Sweet Misfortune‘ is the one for you.
Sophie, the main character owns a chocolate shop. Her claim to fame is what she calls ‘misfortune’ cookies. These are very bitter tasting cookies that contain just as bitter notes inside. People love them and flock to the shop to buy them. But why does Sophie have such a negative view on life?
Her ex-fiance’ reenters her life and is surprised by her negativity. They make a bet, he’ll take out a want ad in the newspaper saying Wanted:Happiness, and if at least 100 people respond with indisputable answers, she has to go out on one last date with him.
Get this book! Seriously. I think this author is extremely underrated, and I have enjoyed every book that I’ve read from him thus far. Another great book from him is called ‘The One Good Thing’ you need to check that out as well.
Also, I really want you to read this book so that we can discuss it!! Loved it.
The Ex Files by Victoria Christopher Murray
‘The Ex Files‘ was 4 stars all the way.
Four women, who belong to the same church, all find themselves newly single for some reason or another. Some in the group are bitter, while others are already moving on with their lives.
Because the congregation is so large, the women don’t know each other. The Pastor of the congregation decides that needs to change and forms a weekly prayer meeting for all of them.
The women are less than happy to be there, and they have trouble finding any sort of common ground. When a terrible tragedy strikes, the women realize, that maybe they need each other more than they originally thought.
This was the book of the month for a bookclub that I’m in, and boy did we have plenty to talk about. This book will have you mad at the characters, surprised by the twists, and anxiously waiting for more. I’d recommend this book as well.
Well that’s all for this month’s reading roundup! What are you currently reading?
Make life sweet and learn all you can.
